Remastered re-release of the debut full-length album by Norwegian Black Metal legend.
One of the most influential albums in Black Metal history, “In The Nightside Eclipse” is nothing short of a masterpiece. The best Emperor’s album by far, if not the best Black Metal album by far. Each and every track stands out on this album and the entire feeling just gets better as each track progresses. Displaying much more emotional range than many of its contemporaries, "In The Nightside Eclipse" combines Black Metal's noisy fury with synth arrangements and dark, haunting medieval chords and melodies, thus evoking moods of sorrow and loneliness. Awash in pagan imagery, the album was recorded in the Memorial Hall of Edvard Grieg for additional atmosphere, indicative of the record's ambition and of the band's willingness to experiment and push the limits of the Death Metal genre. In fact, "In The Nightside Eclipse", although not quite as complex or accessible as its follow-up, is arguably the definitive Norwegian Black Metal album.
It was the last album to feature drummer Faust and the only one to feature one-time bassist Tchort. Considered a landmark in the Black Metal scene, the album has been ranked by critics as one of the most influential albums of the genre. It also contains one of Emperor's best known track "I Am the Black Wizards".
In 2009, IGN included “In The Nightside Eclipse” in their "10 Great Black Metal Albums" list. In 2005, the album was ranked number 292 in Rock Hard magazine's book of “The 500 Greatest Rock & Metal Albums of All Time”.
This second re-edition contains two bonus-tracks from the 1999 version re-issue (covers of Bathory and Mercyful Fate), as well as enhanced video material from live show in Oslo'1997 ("Towards the Pantheon") + Live recordings from 1997. For the reissue, the opening tracks "Intro" and "Into the Infinity of Thoughts" were combined.
In memory of Euronymous (1968-1993).
The must have album for any Black Metal fan!!
