Remastered re-release of the debut full-length studio album by legendary American Horror/Glam/Hard Rock band.
Much of the material on the album was written by Gene Simmons and Paul Stanley, as members of their pre-KISS band Wicked Lester. With the exception of "Kissin' Time", all of the material for "Kiss" was written before the band entered the studio. Some of the songs were written during Wicked Lester's brief existence, while "Firehouse" was written by Paul Stanley while he was attending the High School of Music & Art in New York City.
KISS is one of the best-selling bands of all the time, having sold more than 75 000 000 records worldwide, including 25 000 000 RIAA-certified albums.
KISS also holds the title as America's #1 Gold record award-winning band of all time, having earned 30 Gold albums. Band has 14 Platinum albums, with three albums being multi-Platinum.
On April 10, 2014, the four original members of KISS were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
KISS was ranked by MTV as the ninth "Greatest Metal Band of All Time", and placed tenth on VH1's "100 Greatest Artists of Hard Rock" list, as well as being ranked as the third "Best Metal and Hard Rock Live Band of All Time" by Loudwire.
Despite the band's promoting and touring, "Kiss" sold approximately 75 000 copies after its initial release without the presence of a hit single. It was certified Gold on June 8, 1977, having shipped 500 000 copies. The album was re-released in 1997 (along with most of KISS' earlier albums) in a remastered version.
Gene Simmons has said that the 1974 self-titled is his favorite KISS album.
